Privacy Principles of DotReco
DotReco is built so that what you shoot never has anywhere to go but your own iPhone:
- Zero Data Collection: No personal information, usage metrics, photos, videos or audio are collected, stored remotely, or transmitted.
- 100% On-Device Processing: Pixel-art rendering, the HUD overlay, photo encoding and video recording all run locally on your iPhone.
- Zero Network Communication: DotReco contains no networking code and makes no internet requests of any kind.
- No Accounts or Tracking: No sign-up, no ads, no analytics or attribution SDKs.
- Add-Only Photo Access: DotReco can save new photos and videos to your library, but cannot read or change anything already in it.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
DotReco does not collect any data from your device. Specifically:
- Camera, Microphone & Media: Camera frames and microphone audio are processed in memory only. Nothing is kept except the photos and videos you choose to take, which are saved to your own photo library.
- HUD Text: The player name and message you enter stay on the device.
- Personal Identifiers: The app does not ask for or collect names, email addresses, device identifiers, or IP addresses.
- Usage Analytics: There are no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting frameworks embedded in DotReco.
Because of this, DotReco's App Store privacy declaration is "Data Not Collected".
2. Access DotReco Asks For
DotReco requests the minimum access needed to work, each only when it is first needed:
Camera
Requested on first launch. Used to show the live pixel-art preview and to take photos and videos. If you decline, the app shows how to allow access in the Settings app.
Microphone
Requested the first time you hold the A button to record a video, and used only to record sound into that video. If you decline, videos are recorded without sound.
Photo Library — add only
Requested the first time you save a photo or video. DotReco uses add-only authorisation, so it can write new items to your library and nothing else. The thumbnail in the lower-left corner is your last capture kept in memory, not something read from your library.
3. Local Storage
Your settings (player name, starting level, HP, message, retro mode and HUD mode) are stored on the device using
UserDefaults. This is declared in the app's privacy manifest with reason CA92.1 (data accessed only by the app itself).
While a video is recording it is written to the app's temporary folder, and the file is deleted as soon as it has been saved to your photo library. Deleting the app removes all of this local data.
4. Zero Network Requests
DotReco performs no network communication. It contains no HTTP client, no socket usage, and no third-party SDK that could communicate on its behalf. The app functions identically in Airplane Mode. The Support and Privacy Policy links in Settings simply open this website in your browser.
5. Children's Privacy
DotReco is a general-purpose camera app that collects no data from anyone, of any age. It contains no user-generated content sharing, no messaging, and no external links to unmoderated content.
6. Inquiries and Customer Support
If you send us an inquiry through our online contact form, any details you provide (such as your name and email address) will be used solely to answer your question and assist with support. We will never sell, share, or disclose your information to any third party.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with an updated date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
