Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I take a photo or a video?
Tap the A button in the centre of the bottom bar to take a photo. Press and hold it to record a video — recording continues while you hold and stops when you let go. A blinking REC indicator and timer show while recording.
Q. I held the A button but no video was recorded the first time.
The first long press only asks for microphone access, so the permission prompt never interrupts a recording. After you answer, hold the A button again to start recording. If you decline, videos are recorded without sound.
Q. The screen says camera access is not allowed.
Open the Settings app, go to DotReco, and turn on Camera. The button on that screen takes you there directly.
Q. Where are my photos and videos saved?
In the Photos app. The thumbnail in the lower-left corner shows your last capture; tap it to open the Photos app. If saving fails, check that DotReco is allowed to add photos in Settings → DotReco → Photos.
Q. How do I change or hide the HUD?
Tap the preview to cycle between FULL (name, level, HP and message), MINIMAL (name, level and HP) and OFF. To change the name, starting level, HP or message, open Settings with the gear button in the top-right corner.
Q. How does LEVEL UP work?
While a video is recording, your level goes up by one every 10 seconds (up to LV 99) and LEVEL UP! blinks under the HP bar. When recording stops, the level returns to the starting level set in Settings.
Q. Is the HUD included in saved photos and videos?
Yes. The HUD is drawn into the same frame as the pixel art, so what you save looks exactly like the preview. Set the HUD to OFF if you want a clean shot.
Q. Can I use the front camera?
Not in the current version. DotReco uses the rear wide camera.
Q. Does DotReco send any data anywhere?
No. DotReco makes no network connections at all. See the Privacy Policy for details.
